San Francisco Employees' Retirement System (SFERS) provides information regarding individual retirement benefits for active and retired City and County employees.

The SFERS office is located at 30 Van Ness Avenue, Suite 3000, San Francisco, CA 94102, at the northeast corner of Van Ness Ave. and Market St. The office is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. If traveling by Muni, exit at the Van Ness station. If traveling by BART, exit at the Civic Center station and walk west on Market St. to Van Ness Ave.

In light of the ongoing market turmoil, the San Francisco Employees’ Retirement System (SFERS) would like to reassure you that the pension Trust is sound. As an active or retired member of a defined benefit plan such as SFERS, your benefits are guaranteed by law. Our Plan is invested in highly diversified portfolios, with holdings across multiple asset classes, which minimizes negative impact to the overall portfolio from any one asset class.
SFERS has a history of solid investment performance. According to the National Association of State Retirement Administrators (NASRA), the median annualized public pension fund investment return for the five-year period ending June 30, 2008 was 9.82%. Our investment portfolio returned 11.32% for the same period.

SFERS is committed to serving our members. We will continue to closely monitor market events and to make prudent decisions with regard to the investment portfolio in order to minimize exposure and to identify opportunities.
